The door is made of solid Douglas Fir or pine and has a traditional, Victorian style, 5-panel arrangement with 4 vertical panels divided by a small horizontal panel. The door is painted and the panels are raised on both sides. When most people hear "pine" they think of a cheap, weak, soft wood.
New pine hewn from 10 - 20 year old trees don't have the same insect-resistant, rot-resistant, or even fire-resistant qualities that old pine, hewn from trees hundreds of years old have. Old pine is also much harder and stronger than young pine.
The door is not equipped with any hardware. Considering that the door is over 100 years old, it's very good condition.
The lower, lock stile corner is broken and there is a small chunk of wood missing from the interior side of the lock stile (see last 2 photos). Otherwise, this door has the typical scrapes, scratches, dents, and small nail holes that you would expect to find on a door this old. However, there are no serious breaks i. Broken joints, cracks, rot or warp. After some sanding and filling with wood putty, all of the cosmetic blemishes will be removed. The door is strong, sturdy, and ready for another lifetime of service. We could refinish, repaint, or partially or completely strip the door to prepare it for you to repaint or refinish. Swing : The door is set up to swing inwardly towards the right. Modification : We could also modify this door to fit your opening or suite your needs. We could make a frame, trim or add to the height or width, replace wooden panels with glass, reverse the swing, plug the hardware holes, etc. Too tall, short, wide or narrow?
